The holidays are quickly approaching! With Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years right around the corner, this is easily one of the most exciting and stressful times of the year. Family is coming into town, parties and gathering take place almost every weekend and the list of things to do seems endless. To help you focus on the fun and cheerful parts of the holidays, we compiled a list of a few of our best ideas for holiday home preparations. We suggest getting a few of these items done early so that you have more time to relax in the months ahead!
Deep Cleaning and Sprucing Up
The first step to preparing any home for the holidays is creating a blank canvas to work with. Take some time to go through the house room by room with a feather duster, broom and mop to give the home a much-needed cleaning. While working, scout out any old, broken or unwanted items that are taking up space. Make piles for trash, donation and storage and dispose of the items accordingly. This not only massively declutters the home, but it also makes it easier to find and place holiday decorations later.
Prepare the Guest Rooms
Holidays are a time for family, and that means plenty of house guests are planning to arrive soon. Having extra people in the house adds stress. To combat this, we recommend already having the guest rooms ready to go! This saves time and makes the future to-do list a little shorter. Make sure the room has clean sheets and extra blankets, an empty closet for luggage and any other personal touches you want to add. This is also a great place to put any extra holiday decorations, candles or accents to help spread holiday cheer to your guests.
Decorate!
Now that the house is cleaned, organized and ready for guests, the fun can really begin! Nothing is better than coming home to a fully decorated home during the holidays. Start pulling out the decorations and placing them all around the home. Make sure to throw away any broken items and donate the unused décor. Also, make a list of anything you throw away and items to purchase to complete the full home decorating process. Shopping during the holidays is chaotic and you won’t want to forget anything important!
The last step is easy. Sit back, relax and enjoy all your hard work! Get ready to enjoy some of the happiest months of the year with friends and family.
