Whether you’re looking to fill your weekends and time off with adventure, relaxation or just plain fun, it’s easy to create your own lake staycation from the comfort of your Harcrest home.

Spend the Day On the Water

The most obvious place for a Lake Lanier staycation is on the water itself, where boating, skiing, fishing and watersports are popular pastimes. Many Harcrest homes are built on lakeside homesites to allow seamless access to water activities. With eight total marinas on Lake Lanier, there are plenty of options for wave runner and boat rentals, as well as places to top off on fuel or grab a bite to eat.

Port Royal Marina, located at the north center of Lake Lanier near Browns Bridge, is a popular full-service marina amongst locals for its boat repair services, essential shopping and dining at Pelican Pete’s Tiki Bar and Grill. Go on a nautical adventure by renting a speed, pontoon, party or houseboat – you choose your style and set the tone for your staycation.

Get the adrenaline going at Lake Lanier Olympic Park, home of the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games and a popular spot for rowing, kayaking and canoeing. The park’s history of hosting watersports champions makes it the perfect place for amateurs to hone their skills or just enjoy a day on the water. Relax on the sandy beach, enjoy a picnic, read a good book in the Fields Memorial Butterfly Garden, cast a line off the fishing shore or rent a kayak. Another popular destination, Lanier Islands offers lakeside amenities, white sandy beaches, golfing and waterpark fun for the whole family at Margaritaville at Lanier Islands.

Here for the View

If you’d rather spend your staycation by the water rather than on it, check out some of the shoreline beaches. Located on the western shore of Lake Lanier near Browns Bridge Road between Gainesville and GA 400, Vann’s Tavern Park features a white-sand beach, calming lake views, places to picnic and a boat launch. Nearby Mary Alice Park in Cumming off GA 400, the most westerly park on Lake Lanier, features a sandy beach shore, grills and 24-hour boat ramps.

Land Lovers Can Staycation Too!

If you’re feeling a little waterlogged, there’s still plenty to do on your Lake Lanier staycation!

Hit the links at any of several golf courses in the area. Lanier Islands Legacy Golf Course offers stunning lake views while Chicopee Woods in the rolling hills of nearby Gainesville feels like an escape into nature with regular wildlife viewings. If you are not up for a full 18 holes, there are also places to perfect your disc golf or mini golf game, too!

Plan a day exploring the many trails around Lake Lanier. Don Carter State Park on the northern end of the Buford Dam offers four miles of paved and natural trails. Little Ridge Park in Cumming features walking trails and water and wildlife views. Laurel Park, a shaded spot near the lake’s shore, also features popular walking trails and a splash park for the kids to cool off post-walk.

Alternatively, avoid the walk altogether and saddle up at the Stables at Lanier Islands! Soak up the view and enjoy the ride as gentle horses guide you through scenic trails along the lakeshore.

Too Much Activity? Try a Day at the Spa!

If just reading about these staycation possibilities is making you tired, try booking your staycation day at a spa instead. The Spa on Green Street and Tranquility Spa at Lanier Islands both offer a variety of services to help you find the zen you need for the ultimate staycation.
